SKIP

Partnering with the Warehouse
The Warehouse brand is well-known for supporting community initiatives that focus on New Zealand families. SKIP is partnering with The Warehouse to:

     1. Trial work-based parenting conversations
     2. Promote the The Warehouse and SKIP co-branded resource for dads
     3. Develop a Warehouse and SKIP resource for mums, based from real stories, tips and photos from mums at the Warehouse Distribution
and Apparel Centre in South Auckland
     4. Promote positive parenting messages throughout The Warehouse stores.

What is SKIP?
SKIP is a community based programme supported by the Ministry of Social Development. It gives practical parenting information and skills so parents can have strong relationships with their children.

SKIP promotes positive parenting which uses effective non-physical discipline to set limits and boundaries. SKIP focuses on six things that children need to be happy and reach their potential: love and warmth; limits and boundaries; talking and listening; guidance and understanding; consistency and consequences; delivered in a structured and secure environment.

The way children are bought up has changed a lot in the last two or three generations. It used to be children were expected to ‘be seen and not heard’. We know children want to explore and experiment to find out about the world and their place in it. They climb, taste, poke, jump, touch and ask a million questions.

And, we also know that children need limits and boundaries and these work best in an environment where children feel supported and secure.

Since 2004 SKIP has worked successfully with national organisation leaders in parenting such as Plunket, Barnardos and Playcentre, supported innovative local community initiatives and distributed a series of hugely popular and easy to read pamphlets and other resources. Recently surveyed parents of young children found that nearly 50% were aware of SKIP.

What is DIYFather?
DIYFather is a father’s guide to parenting. DIYFather.com was brought into this world by Wellington-based dads Scott Lancaster, Eric Mooij and Stefan Korn who recognised the need for a dedicated website for fathers. Based on their own experiences of struggling to find useful parenting related information from a male perspective they created DIYFather.com

The Warehouse
The Warehouse is one of New Zealand’s largest retailers with 85 retail stores across the country. It is a New Zealand owned and operated company and employs over 8,500 staff from Kaitaia to Invercargill. Every Warehouse store gets involved with charities and schools at a local level.
