THE WONDERFUL MECHANICS OF TURNING THINGS ON AND OFF AUTOMAGICALLY
Bought one of these this week, and once I got it home, while I initially thought I was about to lose my marbles down a drain...that maybe this was in fact a rocket science experiment ala The Truman Show (or similar)? I happened to flip the plug over to reveal the underside (previously covered by the black/yellow packaging. I took it out and plugged it straight in! Who wouldn't? It's what we did as kids, right? Everything is on the front, and the packaging was otherwise printed - except for instructions, d'oh! I didn't turn it every which way first, to inspect a...plug? Who'd think to find the info there? Come on, hehe 🤫🤭) - and there on the bottom of plug (where it plugs into socket), beholdened in all their bare bones two-step glory, were...well I never - instructions! I'm guessing the option to not print these on the packaging was a 'Design Feature (TM)'? That maybe there is a hidden joke cam compiling a recording of (all?) the people like me who didn't know how this thingy does job. Talk about five mins of 'Zomg! How does this thing work?! Gah! Don't make me search the internet!' My parents had one of these when I was a kid, it can't be rocket science (sorry, joke). Anyway... Once I realised you set current time (via arrow), then for 'on time(s)'? You pull alllll the pins out for corresponding hours, and for 'off time(s)'? You leave all pins pushed in that correspond to times you want el thingo plugged into it turned off? Voila. Easy. So easy I felt 'The Dumb' approaching. Fast. The big plus is, it's going to save me more than it cost to buy - by automagically turning an appliance off. With some passing 15 min intervals, it emits a 'click' of varying audibility I've noticed since its been immersed in 'Operation Appliance Off'. It's not loud or jarring or anything. Perhaps those particular 15 min intervals are a bit strenuous? Or on the dark side of the moon or something? Bless it's poor wee mechanical cotton socks. It doesn't bother me at all - in fact I find it rather endearing in this digital whisper sync 'hey is my data really secure?' 🤔 age, to have a mechanical thing that reassuringly goes 'click' at me every now and then. Like the Monty Python machine that went ping. Or the coin-activated robot who lived on the moon when Wallace and Gromit visited for afternoon cheese. Otherwise, you can't hear it ticking or anything - it's silent. And it does job. Love it ☺️
