The Camper Van
I got this set 10220 late last year as a gift for myself, at the time it was backordered but the long wait was well worth it! Built it on a Saturday afternoon just as most of big builds would undertake, very fantastic set it screams 60's down to the interior everything you would expect from a VW camper van of the time period are immaculately transformed to Lego bricks, oh the rear engine too! The piece of orange fabric made to simulate the van's "sleeper" top also adds to the coolness factor, either you play it or display it this set just looks awesome, I bought because I like German vehicles like this one and the other German inspired set being my two Unimogs, thats another story.

I couldn't complain that much for this set, the overall design very accurate, there's just two little and very forgivable things about this set that I will address on this review:

- it's not 4WD, not really the 4WD you will expect from a Technic set as this is not, the pair of wheels are bolted by a Technic 2M connector and that limits the set's playability. I modified mine so the wheels can move independently.
- The underbody is somewhat empty, this has been an issue I kind of noticed with the brick sets I have bought from Lego, very minor and be easily fixed by filling it with bricks and plates to reinforce the set's underbody structure

So will I recommend it still? YES definitely! Lego did a great job in recreating the T1 Camper Van.

This build has so many surprising details that it made me laugh out loud. Youâ??re never sure what feature youâ??re building until itâ??s done, and then: Shazam! The plant was a particularly nice touch.

Having traveled in a friendâ??s VW camper for a week or two of our tour through Europe in 1967, it brought back many fun memories.

So much fun!
My mother purchased this at LEGO land in Schaumburg for my 36th birthday. My 2 kids are obsessed with the VW Camper Van and all VW cars for that matter. There is a car museum near our home and they have a T2 camper van so needless to say, my 7 year old son couldn't wait to start building this set. The first thing we did was place the parts in individual sealable plastic bags to retain the original organization of the parts. This was my first set without numbered bags and while that was a surprise, it was totally welcomed since we knew this was an "expert" build. I'd love to visit the lego factory to see how these are packaged because I'm amazed that all the parts were there. It took us a few weeks building for about 30-90 min per day. The only disappointing thing is that the wheels don't turn. I love that the top is not difficult to remove so when people look at it they can easily see inside. Now on to purchase the beetle.

Zibbit nailed it...
Since I've retired about a year ago, I've built over 30 lego sets. All but this one have been FANTASTIC. Those include Tower Bridge, all of the arch series and several of the modular buildings. Oh, yes, I find Lego a nice, relaxing hobby and give some of the sets away to kids. Back to this one, I agree fully with Zibbit. Every company has a dud, clunker, lemon....and from my experience the VW van, it's Lego's. The roof structure is very unstable. Some Lego sets are challenging....and thats a good thing. this one was just plain frustrating. With that said, Zibbit, Lego is a great company with great products and customer service. Buy some other Lego sets, you won't be disappointed!

First dissappointment.
I love all the details about this kit. It was a challenge to build, and looked really good, when finished.
The real problem is when you take it off the shelf to show to family or friends...parts fell off, the roof pieces crumbled ... I have a whole tray full of parts which fell apart. I now have to go dig out the instructions, just to re-build the whole roof and figure out where the extra pieces belong. It was actually quite embarrassing for me ... I pulled it off the shelf to share and when it began falling apart, my friend commented "he had no idea legos were so fragile, thought they were supposed to interlock" !!
I could not, in clear conscience recommend this kit to him.

Enjoyed building it. So much details. The only cons is roof easy to break apart but not a big deal. Overall amazed with the design.

Inspired display model - good fun for the LEGO and VW Kombi fan
Purchased as gift - delightful model to construct but can be fragile so more a display than anything else. Our son is delighted :-)

Bags Not Numbered
The finished product is nice. The build was not all that fun for me though. The bags are not numbered like they usually are with large sets. This was hugely annoying because it made it so that I had to open all of the bags at the beginning of the building process instead of just having to open a few. It also made it harder to find the pieces I was looking for. Another thing that was annoying was the fact that what looked like dark grey in the instruction manual was actually supposed to be black. I spent so much time looking for dark grey pieces that didn't exist and finally figured out that it was supposed to be black. This was infuriating. This has been one of the worst builds in my experience with Legos. If you are thinking of getting one of the Creator Expert car sets, I recommend getting the Volkswagen Beetle over this one.
