Comfortable and very well made - online picture doesn't do it justice
I admit I was hesitant to buy this mattress initially - being an online only deal, there's no way to test it out in store, and there were no other reviews online, thus it was very much a huge unknown/bit of a gamble. I'd done some reading re pocket spring coil gauges and thought 1.8 might be too soft (1.8 apparently being at the lower - i.e. soft - end of the scale, whereas I prefer a firmer - but not rock hard - mattress). I'm happy to say that this mattress is GREAT - it's not too soft. The mattress is also very well made - the photo online doesn't do it justice at all. The quilted/foam layers on top are comfy and cover the inner 'stuff' well - not overly puffy, though nor are they too thin that you can feel any coils (unlike innerspring mattresses in a similar price bracket, which I'd definitely never buy for that reason). The quilted top is a nice, soft microfibre-like material, and there's enough substance to the mattress that you do not feel any cold through it - which is great because I don't like using electric blankets. If one did prefer a slightly puffier top, any of the newer kind of mattress toppers/underlays that are more like duvets would suffice (and while I do have one, I honestly haven't found it necessary and prefer not to use it). The edges of the mattress are reinforced, and all seams etc. are very well sewn. In person, it looks more expensive than one would expect from the photo online. The fabrics used are good quality; the pattern/colours are not garish/ugly. The sides are relatively plain black/grey, and the bottom is covered with a dense, durable, plain black fabric.
I understand this is The Warehouse's own brand, thus delivery was not via Courier Post and I didn't get a tracking number when my order was shipped. I called to query re why no tracking number and was advised it would be delivered by their own transport co, thus no tracking number. I was told I was welcome to call at any time to enquire re status, and assured I'd be called prior to delivery to make arrangements for me to be home etc. Zero complaints re that - I've always found The Warehouse's customer service number to be staffed by very helpful/polite/professional people.
In fact, The Warehouse excelled beyond my expectations re delivery. I (mistakenly) thought delivery was 3-5 working days, thus phoned to get an ETA at the end of day 3 (because as noted above, The Warehouse own deliveries have a different tracking system). When I found out delivery was actually 5-7 working days, I asked if there was any way it could possibly be shipped sooner rather than later, not expecting what happened after that at all. The Warehouse were more than happy to oblige - to the point the mattress was delivered to me personally! Two staff in The Warehouse's Auckland transport division were asked to drive TO HAMILTON when they got to work first thing in the morning on day 5, in order to get the mattress to me that AM. There was nothing else in the van, so it really was a special delivery. Ordering online from The Warehouse has always been great service, though I was pretty stunned at the lengths they went to in order to get this mattress to me on day 5, thereby meeting my (mistaken!) expectations of delivery. A person called me back later on day 3 to say it might make the truck that day - though probably not - however they would do their best to try to get it picked up as well. That same person called me again on day 4 to advise it had missed their third party collection truck at the end of day 3 after all, so wouldn't be delivered to me on day 4. Given that I'd called later in the day on day 3? Kudos to them for both (1) seeing if it *could* happen/giving it a shot, AND (2) also calling me the next day to let me know it'd been missed and apologise for the disappointment. The majority of businesses wouldn't even bother calling back to let you know it'd been missed. The same person joked that if it was missed again on day 4, they'd drive it down to me personally themselves. Which - it turns out - they pretty much did! Outstanding service - in a time when it's pretty rare for anyone in retail to go the extra mile, least of all the larger chain stores/online retailers. Great mattress at a great price. I'm impressed all round re this purchase, and am glad I took the gamble on an unknown mattress with zero reviews - has anyone else bought one?! I do recommend it. There are other online stores that sell similar style mattresses rolled up "in a box", though this one arrived fully wrapped in thick plastic, thus no unfolding or waiting for it to 'spring' back into shape. The thick plastic it was wrapped in ensured it was in pristine condition when it got to me - no marks or dirt on it whatsoever.
