Sustainability at The Warehouse

We believe sustainability shouldn’t cost the earth – that’s why sustainability at The Warehouse doesn’t just mean going easy on the environment, it means making the products you buy sustainable and affordable.

Our goal is to become the most sustainable company in New Zealand, so we’ve been taking a hard look at ourselves and our supply chain to see where we can do better. We know there’s hard work ahead, but we’re excited about what we can achieve with your help and support from our partners.
Because looking after the planet also means caring for our communities – we’ve helped raise over $70 million for more than 140 Kiwi charities since 1982.

We’re focusing on our people, doing good through reusable bag sales, nurturing our planet, reducing plastic in our packaging, including sustainable materials in our products, and continuously expanding our ethical sourcing programme for suppliers, all to help more New Zealanders live sustainably. Join us as we do our part to create a better future for people across Aotearoa

Our People

We focus on strengthening our communities, promoting positive actions, and giving back where we can.

To us, sustainability isn’t just about looking after the planet, it’s also about caring for the community and for you. Since 1982, we’ve raised more than $70 million for Kiwi charities like Variety the Children's Charity, and through our partnership with Women's refuge.

Our people have always been at the heart of what we do. They’re simply part of our purpose, and when our community is strong, our business is strong.

We’re always looking for new ways to raise money for Kiwi communities. That’s part of the reason we established The Warehouse Group Foundation, to give back to community groups in our neighborhoods, in our regions and at national level. Find out more about our community partners.

Our Planet

We focus on strengthening our communities, promoting positive actions, and giving back where we can.

Our operations will reduce plastic, packaging, and waste to cut down our overall footprint on the planet. We’ve introduced a few key programmes in this area over the last few years, like the Soft Plastic Recycling Scheme in 17 of our stores. So far, they have collected 24 tonnes of soft plastic that otherwise would have been sent to landfill. We became certified Carbon Neutral in 2019. This means we offset our emissions by supporting sustainability projects in developing countries around the world.
